RINA – July 2021
We had a talk with Alessandra Cuneo (RINA Consulting), our project coordinator who is Co-chair of the Business Models Working Group within the BRIDGE H2020 initiative, representing MUSE GRIDS.
Dear Alessandra, you have recently become the new Co-Chair of the Business Model Working group (BM WG), within the H2020 BRIDGE initiative. Could you tell us a bit more about this Working Group and the involvement of MUSE GRIDS in it?
The Business Models Working Group has been inactive since mid-2019, however with the growing of BRIDGE projects addressing business, economic and general value-oriented aspects, the re-activation of this WG could leverage on the work already done and could efficiently support their efforts and also serve to create additional value to the decision makers on all levels. During the last General Assembly of BRIDGE, it was clear that this Working Group could actively support BRIDGE projects and its re-activation could provide additional and important results on business-models activities in smart grid and energy communities projects. In this framework, MUSE GRIDS could have a significant role mainly related to the innovative business models that could support the creation and empowering of energy communities in Europe. The project is at an important phase where the demonstration campaign is ready to start and an interaction with this Working Group could enhance and support the deployment and validation of use cases and business models.
Could you briefly describe the main focus of the Business Model WG for the year 2021?
During the first year, the Business Model WG will focus on the investigation of relationship of Use Cases (UC) and cross-domain Business Models, where BM could be nested inside the value chain segments described by UCs, and their impact will be analysed via standardized KPIs. Concrete results from projects would be highlighted and used in benchmarking. In particular, a Value analysis Methodology will be defined to covering the relation of Use Cases, Business Models, Services, Actors, and value chain segments and several best practices for monitoring of UC demonstrations and impact analysis will be performed. Best practices and possible barriers will be identify starting from concrete results from the involved projects.
Which are the first milestones you intend to achieve?
The Working Group has been inactive for a long period and no activities have been performed in the last two years. Actually, the first important milestone has been already achieved. A lot of projects already highlighted their intention to collaborate again on these topics and a lot of people proposed themselves to support the leadership of the WG and be part of the Core Team. Now, we look towards the kick-off meeting which should be within end of the summer and I am excited to look forwards to see how the collaboration with several projects could led to innovative and interesting results.
